Beauty Queen

Makeup, Microblading, Waxing & Lashes

History

Beauty Queen is a salon that specializes in Makeup and Waxing. It was established in 2014 by owner and sole operator Christina L. After years of working for other businesses and freelancing Christina decided it was time to take a leap of faith and step out on her own to create a business that would allow her to use her gifts doing what she loved. She also wanted to create an atmosphere where she could apply her artistic and glamourous vision, as well as her bold, creative personality. Her only problem was finding a location...Soon after Christina seized a great opportunity at the perfect location and Beauty Queen was born.

Christina was born and raised in Oakland, California. Her mother an artist, her father a contractor, and her great grandmother Louise Holland, an ever glamorous Cosmetologist who was a salon owner , and creator of her cosmetics line. Surely she was bound to follow in their footsteps. As a child Christina was always fascinated with beauty and cosmetics. She also was very artistic and took great joy in the various forms of art including, drawing, music in the form of song and dance, as well as playing different musical instruments, but creating beauty was always her passion.

After high school Christina studied at the HBCU of Clark Atlanta University majoring in fashion design. Still being driven towards beauty and cosmetics, and also a bit homesick, Christina returned back home to Oakland to pursue cosmetology. In 2009 Christina graduated from Laney College on the Dean's List with honors and received an Associate of Arts degree, and soon after her Cosmetology license.

Since then Christina returns to Laney from time to time instructing the students of the evening program on makeup application. She has gone on to hold positions as a hairstylist, waxer, and freelance artist in fashion shows and photo shoots, and most recently creator and owner of Beauty Queen.

A Message From Christina

I first want to thank God for His constant blessings and provision, for without Him nothing is possible. I want to thank all my family, especially my mother Lisa who has always loved me unconditionally. She is my rock, my voice of wisdom, encouragement, and so much more. I thank my daddy for being my handy man while he was still here. I thank my love and other handy man Markos, and my sisters Angie and Chas for all their continued love, support, advice, and encouragement. Also thanks to Ms. Curry who taught me the skills that got me to where I am today, and for always pushing me and taking me out of my comfort zone. Last but not least, all of my Queens (my clients) for believing in me, their continued support and patience while in transition, their referrals, and most of all, for the relationships that we have built together. Thank you all.

In loving memory of

Louise Holland
